The Artist: Pierre-Auguste Cot (1837–1883) came from Bédarieux in Languedoc, a southern province of France. He was a student of the history and portrait painter Léon Cogniet and two of the titans of Academic painting, Alexandre Cabanel and William Bouguereau Pierre Auguste-Cot's 1873 painting Springtime, is a magnificent image of young love, flavoured by a coquettish charm and a devotional gaze shared between his subjects..
